2009-Surf Community Video
*Below is a video made by Joe Carter of the Lil Miss Molly Paddle on
August 22nd, 2009.
Watch it...it's really something special.
ATTENTION
BIG WAVE EAST COAST SURFERS:
Somers Point, NJ [August 18th, 2009] With hurricane season on
the horizon, surfers up
and down the East Coast of the United States invariably think of the
biggest and possibly
best waves of the year. This year,
NYNJSurf.com is looking to take advantage of the seasons
great waves and help raise much needed funds for the Dean
Randazzo Cancer Foundation
with the 2009 Hurricane Surf for Dean! contest - possibly
the only contest of its kind. What
makes the contest unique is the format: competitors up and down the
East Coast, or anywhere
in the world, for that matter compete against each other regionally
to get photographed on the
biggest wave. And the contest doesnt run for just one day or at
just one location surfers can
be photographed on any wave, anywhere from September 1st to October
31st, 2009.
A
unique, challenging, and exciting format for the surfers is one thing,
but the cause is quite
another. The contest, inspired by New Jersey pro surfer Dean Randazzo,
benefits the
Dean Randazzo Cancer Foundation. The Foundation was founded in 2001
after Deans first bout
with Hodgkins Disease. Dean has since battled back from the disease
3 times to rejoin the pro
circuit and has come to represent the best in surfing and the best in
life to a generation of New
Jersey surfers and surfers across the world. Despite his setbacks, Dean
has continued to battle
back time and again and is healthy and doing quite well. His foundation
also continues to
work hard, raising much needed funds to support cancer research and
assist others from all
walks of life stricken by cancer.
Hurricane
Surf for Dean is NYNJSurf.coms
followup to the highly successful 2008 Do it for Dean
contest, which also benefited the Dean Randazzo Cancer Foundation. The
contest, held across the
month of March 2008, attracted over 100 surfers from the U.S. East and
West coasts, Hawaii,
and Puerto Rico.

Use of state beaches
in NH has increased and preferences for recreation experiences continue
to
develop and change. Because of this, it is important to understand what
people like and do not like
about their experience and management of the beaches. There will be
a short on-site survey being
conducted at North Beach and Jenness Beach during the summer months
of June, July, and
August, 2009 by Dr. Joshua Carroll from UNH in conjunction with NH Division
of Parks and
Brian Warburton, South/Seacoast Regional Superintendent. This survey
will be voluntary and
your input is appreciated.
Brian Nevins writes: The website for the Lacrosse
charity I worked on in January down in La Chureca,
Managua, Nicaragua went live today. The opening video came out great,
it's about 20 min. long but
a great view of the project. Theres also an extensive photo gallery
under the media section.

SURFRIDER
Greetings,
The weather
is beautiful and NH Surfrider would like to invite you to our monthly
beach cleanup on Sunday, May 3rd @ 2pm at the Wall in Hampton.
We will meet outside of Cinnamon Rainbows and will provide rubber
gloves and trash bags (courtesy of Blue Ocean Society). Last
month, we had an incredible turnout and collected an estimated 1200
pounds of trash. Hope to see you there!! For more information, visit
our website: www.surfrider.org/newhampshire
Starting this month, we will be offering "golden tickets"
to each volunteer at our cleanup events. Two winners will be chosen
at each cleanup to collect a free pair of Ocean Minded sandals as well
as other free gear across the street at Cinnamon Rainbows. IT
GETS EVEN BETTER......all tickets from the May, June, July, and August
cleanups will be entered into a raffle to WIN A NEW SURFBOARD from Cinnamon's!!
This winner will be chosen at the August 1st cleanup. Huge thanks go
out to Marc Angelillo of Ocean Minded and Dave Cropper
from Cinnamon Rainbows for these generous donations!! Be sure
to return the stoke by supporting your local shops!
We also have two other beach cleanups to report and ask that you consider

FOR CASH" FUND RAISER Events: Dr. Brent Reinheimer,
local surfer and Exeter Hospital physician, is leading the charge
for the "Stash for Cash." Dr. Brent says, "Anybody
that is interested in participating in the "growth" will decide
on a facial hair distribution and shave it out next Friday. We will
keep it until the NE Regionals (May 15th). We will have the participants
submit their "stash" and we will have viewers decide which
is the "Most Creative Stash". That person will get a prize.
Also, the person who gets the most sponsors, will win a prize as well."
This is pretty cool idea and we're sure that we can rally some folks
to kick in some insane prizes. Please stay tuned as we'll offer more
info next week.

Little
Miss Molly Fund Auction
All
the shops are collecting cards, gifts, and other provisions for the
Rowlee family. Miss Molly still has to endure the Chemo treatments and
the family still has to take time off from work to make this all work.
PIONEERS , CINNAMON RAINBOWS, BRICKHOUSE, ZAPSTIX and many more
shops are drop off points of interest for Miss Molly. Skip Brunette
has opened a Little Miss Molly account at the SEACOAST CREDIT
UNION on 887 Lafayette Rd, Hampton NH. (see poster below for info).
There are several fund raisers in the making as well.
The Fitness Revolution on Lafayette Road (Rte 1), North Hampton,
NH. March 8th and is called "A Day for Molly".
An those great folks have so many cool things planned. There's a silent
auction set up that runs to the 13th and includes a ton of awesome stuff,
like memberships, 12 personal trainer sessions, car detailing and reconditioning,
and so many more. Surely someone out there could use one of those.
Miss
Molly is on the road to recovery. But there may be a bump or two
ahead. We need to be an extra pair of hands on that steering wheel.
Miss Molly is going to get better. Please keep the Positive energy
and prayers flowing. More information is available for specifics by
contacting or by stopping into Fitness Revolution.
Sunday
March 8th, The Fitness Revolution on Lafayette Road
(Rte 1),
North Hampton, NH. March 8th are having "A Day for
Molly". And those great
folks have so many cool things planned. There's a silent auction set
up that runs to the 13th and includes a ton of awesome stuff, like memberships,
12 personal trainer sessions, car detailing and reconditioning, and
so many more. Surely someone out there could use one of those. The Rowlees
are an awesome Northern New England Seacoast Surf Family. Their
oldest daughter Molly, ("Miss Molly"), was diagnosed
with Lymphoma. While Lil Miss Molly came home from Children's
Hospital in Boston, their fight is far from over. Heather Day
has reminded me that there is still a call for cards and gifts at Cinnamon
Rainbows and Pioneers. It has been a tremendous out pouring
of love and support, and I know that Buck and Meg are
completely blown away by the support.
But we all know, this fight has really just begun. So
we need to step it up as well.
That
means the whole Surf community. We need to continue to join together
and fight it. Your prayers, your positive thoughts and vibes, are still
very important, not only for Miss Molly's recovery, but for the
support for the family, and close friends as well. Don't stop praying.
Don't stop thinking positive thoughts. I start each day with positive
thoughts and prayers. Before I get out of bed. Then, I think about it
throughout the day. And, I end each day praying and thinking good thoughts.
If I can do it, you can do it. We all know the economy is bad. Hello?
Imagine dealing with this on top of all of what we know? If everyone
would contribute just a little, just think what that could do.
The Rowlee family is forever grateful to our community. So please
continue to help.
Here's something new. The
eighth annual St. Baldrick's Day events are Shaving the Way to Conquer
Kids' Cancer as thousands of brave volunteers shave their heads in solidarity
with children who have cancer and typically lose their hair during cancer
treatment.
Worldwide,
more than 160,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. Â
While advances have saved many children, childhood cancer still claims
the lives of more children in the US than any other disease - more than
diabetes, asthma, congenital anomalies, cystic fibrosis and AIDS - combined!
Be
brave and go bald, or support a brave shavee, team or St. Baldrick's
location near you. Visit http://www.StBaldricks.org,
or call 888-899-BALD to make a donation or register!
Funds
raised by the St. Baldrick's Foundation will be used to fund childhood
cancer research - to help speed the day when every child with cancer
will be guaranteed a healthy future.
On
behalf of all children with cancer, thank you for your support of the
St. Baldrick's Foundation.

BRICKHOUSE is going to raffle off a week long
admission to their summer surf camp with all proceeds going to Miss
Molly's fund.
Last week I wrote about Community. This week I witnessed our
community pull together as one and help a family. I know how humbled
the Rowlees were over the outpouring of love and hope. I was
in awe at the daily Carepages entries and Buck and Meghan's writings.
I know it's far from over, but I felt the tide turn last week. Our
local Surf Community, along with all the shops, and surfers (both
local and non), are all on the same page. The simple goal of helping
a local surf family came together. I am proud of those who did something.
No matter how big or how small. And those who continue to pray and be
positive. I told some young students this week. Anyone can quit. Quitting
is easy. Fighting is hard. So no matter what. NEVER, EVER, Give up.
DO NOT GIVE UP. Don't Give Up on Our Surf Community. We
will help the Rowlees.
